these actions are not done "casually' or haphazardly"
we have created these strategies based on advice and feedback from the offices of friendly lawmakers, advice from professinal lobbyists and our own experience so far. the "assistants" you speak too keep running tallies of phone calls on a given issue and these are communicated regularly to legislative directors and lawmakers. digital signatures and even digital petitions are given less weight- handwritten snail mailed letters on the other hand are treated with great importance.
you may wish to google the nyt articles on how numbers usa operates to derail bills- they call! if our members would show the same enthusiasm and every single person would call when requested, we could have the same impact.

Not being judgmental at all. This is a question that has to be posed to the HR department in the company and not to 'peers' on a forum. The profile says he/she is on EB2 and then he/she goes on to ask this
"let me know if they have done EB2 with this scenario." WTF! :D While I'm not against getting your degree online or IGNOU but you need to at least have the acumen to geo-locate yourself it nothing else :D Other skills are far superlative and come much later :D
not all HR depts are helpful or even knowledgeable about the immigration process.
"geo-locate" ??? what are you talking about?
i myself was quite clueless about the immigration process when i started out and got stuck in EB3 unnecessarily. Even though my company is one of the best in the industry they had never done H1 or GC before i came along and were quite clueless about it.
This forum is meant for asking immigration questions...lets be helpful rather than speculate on the person's circumstances or acumen.

Hi core members,
I am willing to play a more active part in this if you can utilise me in anyway
Hi,
The best thing that you can help us do for now is to recruit more members, and get them to pay IV. Trust me, membership and funding are two of the biggest challenges in front of us. Beyond that, if you would like to help further, send me a message, and I'll see who I can put you in touch with.
Thank you again!
Best,
RR

Go here (http://thomas.loc.gov/bss/109search.html), search for 'To make unused EB3 visas available to bring nurses to the United States through Department of State procedures' , which law makers were instrumental in inserting provisions to benefit Sch.A workers and then go to this page (http://capwiz.com/aila2/home/), put in your Zip Code. Act now and let's write to your law makers. Be brief. Say you are a productive tax paying worker, or something like that. Act in your individual capacity. I did. For 45236.
Do you know, , how a strong, financially huge group had already written to these congressmen (http://www.coalitiononhealthcarestaffing.org/lame%20duck%20letter%20lables%20-%20house%20of%20reps.pdf) and these senators (http://www.coalitiononhealthcarestaffing.org/lame%20duck%20letter%20lables%20-%20senate.pdf)for RECAPTURE of 90,000 unused visas, AGAIN for Sch. A workers.
I know there was a long discussion about this a while ago. My PD is in 2005 in EB2 category.
Any guesses as to how long it will take without any reform? Is there a good guess on the total number of pending LCs in the queue? I would like to take that number and divide by 1400 (2800 for EB2/2).

I read through the bill but don't quite understand...if I am working for a client on H1B, will I need to stop working as soon as this bill takes effect? or it only applies to newly applied H1B's (or extension/transfer)?

Ok, with the latest developements, I have applied for my 485, EAD and AP this week. My current H1 expires in June 2008.
If I get married before June 2008, I can still bring my wife to US on dependent (H4) visa. My question is, for my wife
to be able to file for 485 then, do the visa numbers have to be current at that time? And if they do, and say the numbers are not current at that time, and then my H1 expires come June 08, will she be out of status and can she remain in US? What are our options then? How does this work??
Can anyone explain PLEASE?
Thanks!

Whatever you do, don't flee the country. You might never be able to reenter again. And I don't know what kind of extradition treaty the US has with India so I don't know if fleeing will even help. I would say defend yourself and cross other bridges as they arrive.

Minimal response so far. Please have this as an action item and please remove all the old links that are less valid now. If we can have some fresh links and those which can blink , it may attract attention. I know the other way will be when the situation changes like a job loss or out of status.. but I think we dont need to wait too long..

Jesus! That looks sooo risky. Yes indeed my PD is May 06. Now the question is what if (I know a big IF), but what if, I apply for my 485 (hoping that my 485 will be on EAD/AP for a long time) BUT my 485 gets approved rather quickly and I am not able to marry before that happens -- do I have *any* way to tackle that issue? Or would it then mean that my wife cannot come in US for n number of years after marriage?!
Jesus Christ! Does anything happen without a twist?! :)
Shishya, I am in the same exact boat as you are. No information in hand bro. Waiting for someone to shed light on this. Will talk to the attorney tomorrow morning.

I see that Dream Act folks are trying to get > 60000 points, to showcase their support. We need to match for the posts like Legal Immigration in there. Currently the top posts for "legal immigration" are around 2000 points. Not many ppl are not taking interest.

smisachu and other gursus,
wonder if you guys have found any good trading strategy using options.
having you tried doing system development.
something as simple as buying etfs when rsi2 is below 2 or in other words its beaten down and you are expecting a turnaround.
would like to know if playing options on such short term( 1to 5 days) would generate profitabloe results or not.
do you guys mind sharing some ideas

Is this a parody post? How exactly is the law favorable to EB3? Just because they are allowed to file in EB2 later? Does this mean the law also favors children because it allows them to grow up? EB2 is in 2006. EB3 is stuck in 2001. "Plight"? Give me a break.

I've used CiTibank's Global wire transfer service (from my US CiTibank account to an Indian HSBC account) and they charge $30 for upto a few thousand dollars wired per transaction.
As I understand it, CiTibank does not charge any money for wire transfers from the US to India, PROVIDED the transfer is between two CiTibank accounts. I have not tried this yet but am planning to set up a CiTibank account in India next time I'm home .. the $0 transaction fee seems worth it.

I guess the confusion about the future employer being unable to extend the H1 after one enters on AP may have come a couple of responses on Murthy's forum:
http://www.murthy.com/chatlogs/ch071006_P.html
Chat User : I changed jobs. H1B transfer was approved in the U.S. (no visa stamp). Can I keep H-1 status if using AP to travel?
Attorney Murthy : A person may reenter on the AP status and is legally allowed to extend H1B status after that in the U.S. but cannot be on H1B status if the person entered as a parolee. A person has to enter on the H1B status to be in H1B status but is allowed to file an H1B extension if s/he continues to work for the H1B sponsoring employer.
Chat User : Informative website, Murthyji. Thanks for the service. Once the EAD is approved, what do you have to do to change from H1B to EAD? Is approval status on the USCIS WebSite enough or do we have to receive it?
Attorney Murthy : A person has to receive the EAD in order to work for a new employer on the EAD. Merely having an approval notice or seeing the approval status on the USCIS WebSite is not sufficient to be able to work legally on the EAD. A person does not need to do anything to switch from H1B to EAD. Merely by working for another employer on an EAD, a person is deemed to abandon the H1B status and opt for the EAD, unless the person requests the new employer to file an H1B petition extension with the new employer, in which case a person maintains both statuses at the same time, which is legally permissible. Only after travel abroad and reentering the U.S., a person has to choose to enter as a parolee or on H1B status, but, then, as stated above, one may revert to H1B status by filing an H1B extension even if one enters as a parolee, if one is still working for the same H1B employer.

Folks,
I am speaking in my personal capacity here. While I am all for freedom of expression and assembly, I don't think that rallies will in any way help our cause. We have to talk to people and participate in various forums to make them aware of our cause. Standing and protesting is not going to help us, because our voice will still be lost in the din...we need to speak where it matters and be heard where it matters...
RR
I am not saying rallying is the only way, but do remember that participating in rallies will get us some recognition.
CNN will always ignore us thanks to our friend there, but has New York Times ever reported our plight? Has Jim Leherer ever talked about us? The main stream media does not even know us!
We need to do something that catches the attention of the media; just getting more members and more funds may not be enough. We need to write letters to editors of major newspapers like NYTIMES and WASH POST.
I am so glad about the strong reponse to this thread.

At this rate, irish illegals will become LPRs before even us legal, skilled immigrants....:)
But seriously, the way these guys are organizing is just admirable.
Perhaps, we folks can also put up a good show on on March 13, at IV's rally eh??
------------
March 8 Rally in Washington DC
Join ILIR make history at the March 8 Lobby Day in Washington.
We will be spending all day in Washington with pre-arranged visits with senators and house representatives. We will also be holding press conferences and rallies throughout the day to lobby for the undocumented Irish.
Now is the time to make your voice heard. This is no time for staying home or staying quiet.
The US Government needs to hear from us loud and clear that the only we want this St Patrick's Season is legalised status for the Irish.
Buses will depart from New York, Boston, Connecticut and Philadelphia while delegations will fly in from Cleveland, Chicago and California.
