The reason there were so many placards was - we were expecting atleast 10000 people to show up and with the kind of poor response we got, we were expecting atleast 5000 and thats why there was 700 banners ordered.
If we had the magic figure 10000, the impact could have been marvellous. The banner count would have been appropriate
With 1500 to 2000 - every individual had a banner or a placard or a flag.
Mark's speech was hillarious - but had very strong messages - THESE ARE THINGS THAT NEED SPECIAL SKILLS - AND MARK PULLED IT THROUGH EXTREMELY WELL. Mark is a pround member of the Tri State Chapter and his contributions towards the cause are amazing

And then when she re-enters on h1b (Nov 15 2009) then she will get paid from Nov 15 - Dec 31, so for year 2009 she will just have Jan month and 15 Nov till Dec 31 2009 on w-2. Is that fine since all the other time she was on EAD or out of country.
In case of a dependant 485 there is no requirement to be paid on EAD.

IV members,
We need to come up with some great ideas like "flower campaign". Something that will mobilize IV members.
Let us not be pessimistic. There are thousand of reasons that one can think of why the new administration may not act soon. But that should not stop us from making our cause being heard. The new adminsitration has been taking many decisions that are not economy related. Economy is their #1 priority but it is not their only priority.
The visa recapture issue has been pending for a long time now (atleast 3 years). Either we continue to wait and suffer and remain frustrated or we take some action. Choice is ours.
PS: Let us be civil. I second using non-accusatory language on this forum.

I got a reply from USCIS saying that they can process the request sorted by priority date and country of birth of the applicant. Processing time will be around 15 months and that they have got their answer on priority date.

I agree, at some point, things break even, because people will frankly get fed up and leave. That point will be somewhere between 10-20 years. And we will then be congratulating the two or three Indians who wait this out.
This was just an attempt to model in the absence of reliable information, and to try and get as reliable information as can possible be got. I wish we could get more data and links here than we currently have (just one I think.)
The modelling on this thread shows wait times of 15-20 years for India, about 5 years for ROW, and somewhere in between for China (I think China will be closer to ROW than India just because their backlogs for 2001 and 2002 were one fourth that of India.)
The purpose of the exercise was to estimate wait times based on some solid data. Who is getting screwed, and by how much. (Looks like, the answer to 'who' is Indians, and the answer to 'how much' is 'A lot'.)

Incorrect. You have to submit proof of employment. Basically a letter from employer. If you are unemployed that that will raise a red flag and you cannot renew your EAD anyways. So current and future employment letter is a must for getting EAD. Sometimes they even ask you for salary slips if they suspect your employment. In this proposed amendment the employer also has an obligation to record layoffs and inform government. That makes it very tough for EAD guys to renew their EADs. Even if you are not working for the same company that filed your EAD, USCIS record can show there were layoffs and your applications will be in trouble. Expect lot of RFE and denials. Remember AC21 denials last year?

I think at least 50% (Conservative estimate - it may even be close to 90%) of us can contribute $20 a month.......that would be close to 4500 people
Again simple math - 4500* 20 = $90,000.....
If half of us contribute we can raise close to a $100K in no time.....
I think the question in people minds is whether this will get them anything....will a bill pass with our provisions even after u do it...So remember, this whole effort is to achieve that only...so why sit back and watch...lets do something, if you are not contributing in core activities, just contribute funds...even $20 will help the IV goals..

I feel the arguments desi3933 is giving.... makes most of the sense as compared to the last reply by ron which was like a general response instead of showing root cause of 13k visa lost.

I would agree with the others that name check is a black hole. I had contacted congressman and senators during 'meet the lawmakers', but my contact at the congressmans office said that there is nothing that he can do to help me expediate the name check.
After 3.5 years waiting for my PD to be current i took an infopass appointment only to find out that i am stuck in name check. I had no reason to think about namecheck, i dont even have a parking ticket. Even the immigration officer said that there is nothing much he can do about it. For all other RFE's etc we can provide documentation etc. there is nothing you can do to speed up your name check. if you are stuck then just pray that you get out of this hell hole.
There is a yahoo group called namechecktrackker that was started by an IV member, it has about 1000 members.

Did you read undocumented guys are trying to push their cause and by putting legals aside, which the goverment seems to be hearing. What makes you feel we must wait.. Just because you cannot contribute anything except for yourself. .People waiting for close to 10 years are usually in a position to create value and they are tied to this backlogs. We can do add amendment for recapture in CIR 2009 or just 2-3 months before when actul movement for CIR starts. You can send faxes or letters to Lawmakers but no bill will be on table so they will just put ur faxes on side .. wouldn't it better to start aggressive campaign when something is cooking.

I really admire the perseverance the core shows in moving forward.
If everything seems to be tied to donations, this is because everything needs money. You know ,keeping up this website needs money. Lobbying needs a lot of money. The other day, some one pulled the info from a public website and said 500,000$ have been already spent on lobbying. I am sure more than 90% is probably contributed y less than 5% of the members. I am not one of those 5% even remotely.
Ignore teli and Sanju. You donot need their express approval to move forward. You know why they pick on you ? Because tyou just come and expect to be welcomed as heroes for any idea you have. You need to earn those stripes, then people will follow you.
Tak one Idea. Do something with it. YOu may not get a positive result in the end , but your effort will be appreciated and people will be more receptive to your next idea.

2. Attack on core and asking what the core is doing all these days...?
3. What is preventing core from doing this and that...?
Dont you guys understand that core members also volunteer, they do have their full time job and family. If you believe in something you need to lead the effort. You can not expect others to work and execute your half baked ideas. Come up proper plan and convince others. Otherwise actively take part in IV issues, join state chapter. Contribute more time if you can not contribute money. Build your reputation and others will follow you.
